For me, the only product that actually delivers flexible hold. Jul 05, 2006

"Fervent masticator"
First I need to say that I'm an Asian male. My ethnicity may or may not be important but it may help you imagine my very thick, straight black hair, which I tend to wear comb-able but short. The overall experience with my hair can really be summed up in one word... frustrating. Frustrated with the multitude of barbers and stylists that I went through trying to find someone that would cut it correctly. Frustrated with the products I've tried to hold my hair in the styles that I like. I'm not talking about anything wild (no spikes, no mo-hawks). Just keeping my bangs out of my face and the sides down. The only thing I found that worked was gel and hair spray. This potent combination was great for holding my hair in place, but at the cost of hard, crunchy, immovable hair. Needless to say, this was unacceptable to me so I was always on the lookout for something better. I found it after another failed attempt to find a hair stylist at "Visual Image" in Fremont, CA. I have to say that this review is not a bash on "Visual Image", in fact my experience with them was good with the stylist being very patient/accommodating/professional. Though I didn't come out with a hair cut that I liked, I did come away with an introduction to Sumo Wax.
So why do I like it:
1) It can be used on damp hair. This is great for me because I can wet my hair in the morning with a spray bottle to start combing it through and not have to dry it before I can put product in.
2) The hold is really good... and flexible to boot. This is the only product I have used that truly has flexible hold. After using Sumo Wax, my hair feels a little oily like it hasn't been washed in a couple of days. I know... kinda gross but this has the advantage of making the hair moldable. I do put a little bit of hair spray in once I get my hair to the shape I like, but only a minor amount to keep it's shape.
3) A little Sumo goes a long way. (No pun intended ;-) )
4) It holds all day.
Really, there is only one problem with Sumo... the cost. A 1.5 oz bottle costs $18-$21 which lasts me about 3-4 months. I know, it doesn't exactly break the bank, but it's certainly not cheap either. Unfortunately it is the only product that has worked for me so I'll continue to use it though the price makes it necessary for me to try new products to find a cheaper and/or better alternative.

NEITHER WIND NOR RAIN......... Jul 09, 2005
By Gail Cooke There are very few "his and her" items in our bath area, but this is one of them - and a favorite!
Bumble and Bumble's Sumotech is a light yet strong-hold hair moulding compound. It's perfect for those spikes that look great on many guys, and it's great for keeping a curl or three in place, especially during these hot summer months.
It's a cinch to use - for me, as I use it only on a side curl or two, I simply work a dab through my fingers and apply to hair. Then, come rain, wind or temps in the 90s, those curls stay in place.
Sumotech is fragrance free and not sticky like many sprays.
In the Sumotech box is a fun card that lets you know just where you stand in the tech area - Hi = Computer, Lo = pencil; Hi = DVD, Lo + Drive-in. You may be surprised by your areas of expertise, but not by the holding power of Sumotech!
Not Impressed Sep 24, 2011
By BLOODHOUNDED I was so excited when I read the product description of all the styles Sumo Wax could be used for, but after receiving and using it, I'm just completely disappointed. No matter how little or how much I use it weighs my hair down and my hair won't do anything. I tried all the suggestions I could find online and none of them helped. Will not waste my money (and it was a costly) on this product again.
True to the Hype Nov 15, 2010

I read zillions of reviews before trying this product. True to all the hype, it does just what it says.....HOLD.....and all day, even the next without ever drying or flaking. However, beware using too much or you will look like a shiny grease head. A little goes a long way, and it's pretty important to really heat the small amount you're going to use very well. Otherwise it doesn't spread easily. Worth the money, for sure.
